Imagine a monthly women’s dinner social with a dozen of your best friends, gathered to share a meal and relax after a busy day. In discussions about our children, our work, politics, and how local and national issues impact our lives, several women in the group felt uncomfortable expressing their views. Deciding not to be silenced, Brandywine Women’s Coalition (BWC) became an offshoot of this social club. As it turns out, many conservative women were feeling the same way. The circle of women has grown organically and has evolved into a significant place for open dialogue and learning.
Cancel culture, wokeness, being shouted down by people you may have considered your friends, afraid to express your opinion for fear of being shamed or shunned—is this America? A ferocious attack on free speech and open debate is underway. We are confronted every day with uncivil conversation. On every college campus, at the workplace, at every social gathering, at family events, in social media—let’s face it, pretty much EVERYWHERE—conservative voices are met with anger, even outrage. And that is why BWC was formed. Our small group of women is growing and empowering each other to express our points of view.
Let us continue to gather, to debate, to expand our knowledge of important issues, and to strive to keep civil discourse alive.
